What will you learn?
In this live session, you'll engage directly with expert tutors and fellow participants to explore the strategic, commercial and policy drivers shaping OA growth, from portfolio design and journal positioning to funding models and partnerships with societies and institutions. Building on the previous courses “The OA Landscape” and “The Economics of OA”, the programme will take you through how to identify and prioritise growth opportunities, and respond to emerging challenges, such as policy change, AI and reputational risk. This is an interactive, hands-on course that will equip you with practical frameworks to grow successful OA portfolios.

- Analysing market, policy, and institutional drivers shaping OA demand
- Structuring and segmenting journal portfolios to balance growth and risk
- Defining clear value propositions, positioning, and success metrics
- Assessing competitors (APCs, turnaround times, scope overlap)
- Selecting sustainable OA funding models and evaluating implications
- Identifying growth opportunities via field mapping and funding trends
- Using data (bibliometrics, citations, demographics) to guide strategy
- Developing and monitoring journals with strong editorial positioning, KPIs, and risk/ethics oversight
